  SETS RECORD

About 125 concretemixer trucks of Ready Mix Concrete, Inc.; 10 gigantic telescopic boom pumps of Hill Concrete Pumping and more than 400 workers from various companies were mobilized last Sunday morning to undertake the biggest premixed concrete pouring in the history of Puerto Rico, at a rate of 750 cubic yards per hour. The action took place at the construction site of the new Torre Chardón office building in Hato Rey. Nine Ready Mix plants, located in different strategic points in the metro and suburban area, worked in tight coordination to produce and maintain the constant flow of concrete to the construction site. René Di Cristina, P.E., president of the concrete firm, noted that Sunday's operation, which ran from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m., consisted of pouring 4,400 cubic yards of pre-mixed concrete for the building foundation in an approximately 30,000?square?foot area at a depth of 5 feet He added, that a peak of 830 cubic yards was poured per hour in one of the stages of the operation.

"Previously, the record was 500 cubic yards per hour," said Di Cristina, established last year by Ready Mix during the construction of the State Elections Board Headquarters. Di Cristina acknowledged the work performed by Ready Mix employees, together with the close collaboration and professionalism of the different firms that worked during this phase of the project. Among them were: Desarrollos Metropolitanos, general contractors; CMA, Architects & Engineers; Rebar & Post-tensioning, steel sub-contractors; Standard Refrigeration, plumbing, mechanical and electrical contractors; Durand Concrete Works, in charge of concrete placing and finishing; Edwin Pagán, earth movement; and Hill Concrete Pumping, in charge of concrete pumping. Di Cristina is pleased with the help the company received from the Puerto Rico Police Department in facilitating the, access to the project site for the 125 mixer trucks and the pumping equipment used in this historic pour. Project owner is Empresas Fonalledas.
